Set in the Prohibition era of the 1920s and 30s, this HBO crime drama follows the path of ambitious bootlegger Nucky Thompson, a character vaguely based on the real-life politician and racketeer Enoch L. Johnson. While administering his boardwalk empire, the seaside metropolis Atalntic City, Nucky does not only have to deal with the shadows of his past, the shortcomings of his family relations and snooping Prohibition agents, he also has to keep in with a new generation of gangsters, including notorious men such as Al Capone, Lucky Luciano or Meyer Lansky.

Yay or Nay?

Lush set design, a talented cast, fascinating characters and the intriguing atmosphere of the US 1920s turn this into a highly entertaining TV show. With Martin Scorsese as executive producer, Boardwalk Empire is a must-see for all fans of the crime and gangster genre and an interest in the underworld plots of the Prohibition era.
